Using his father's address book, Kevin tracks down the home of his Uncle Rob and Aunt Georgette, only to find it vacant and undergoing renovations, wherein he realizes Rob and Georgette are still abroad in Paris. The staff offers the family a complimentary suite as a token of apology while Kate decides to go out and look for Kevin, despite the protests of Peter and Mr. Hector, the latter of whom Kate slaps for allowing Kevin to escape. He advises her, "Do bundle up. It's awfully cold outside.", which she takes seriously. The next morning, the family oversleeps and must rush to the airport. Kevin is with them, but he becomes separated from them while carrying Peter's bag and accidentally boards a flight to New York City. Upon arrival, he decides to tour the city, but becomes frightened by a homeless woman tending to pigeons in Central Park.

Daniel Stern plays the scene perfectly, conveying enough pain to make it hilarious. Especially when he tries to count how many fingers Harry is holding up. Kevin continues to throw bricks, perfectly nailing Marv and each hit gets more and more painful. Seeing Marv squeal in fear as Kevin readies the last is one of Marv's funniest moments in the series. When Harry attempts to climb a rigged ladder, he falls over in a fashion that looks so painful and that's thanks to the booming impact of Harry's body hitting the floor.

Peter then implies that Kevin presumably took refuge at Rob and Georgette's house and is cared by a housesitter, but Kate thinks they are in Paris and their New York home is undergoing renovations. The next day, the McCallisters accidentally oversleep due to Peter's actions the previous night. They rush through the airport to make their flight with Peter allowing Kevin to hold his travel bag, and Kevin stops while getting batteries for his Talkboy while the family continues to rush ahead.

On the other plane, Peter reassures Kate that they have nothing to worry about during this trip, unaware that Kevin is on another plane. In the beginning of the novelization, a prologue, which ends up being Marv's nightmare in prison, he and Harry sneak away from the cops and return to Kevin's house to seek revenge on Kevin. Kevin bolts into the garage with Marv and Harry in hot pursuit. Harry and Marv end up triggering extra traps that Kevin had set up in the garage.
But when the vans arrive, the second one hits the bronze statue near the doorsteps, which was not there in the previous shot. In the original film, when Harry burned his palm on the red-hot doorknob, he grabbed the doorknob with his hand sideways, as if he were shaking hands with someone. In the scene when Harry and Marv meet Kevin on the street in NYC, Harry shows Kevin his hand, and the 'M' scar is positioned vertically. When the camera is moving towards Marv like the bag of cement would, the falling rope is not visible in front of Marv like in the previous shot. Kevin chases who he thinks is his dad through the airport and eventually bumps into the lady at the gate and drops his plane ticket which is lost amongst the ones the lady dropped.

However, in the first movie the McCallisters travel to Paris to drop off Heather, with her parents. Therefore, in the second film, it is implied that Heather is still in Paris during the events that take place in this film. When Kevin throws four bricks at Marv, they are shown landing on the sidewalk. Later when Marv gets up, three of them are in the street.

Gets shot with darts with thumbtacks attached to them by two Nerf guns. Has several icicles fall on him and then trips on a trip wire. Has a VR headset put on him making him think he's on a mountain top and ends up crashing into a shelf after trying to jump across a ledge. Pulls a barbell from a ramp, which rolls under the garage door and trips him . Kevin plays a recording of him, making it sound like he's insulting Vera. She then slaps his face, and they get into an argument.

I don't want to go down anyway! I can't trust anybody in this family. If I had my own money, I'd go on my own vacation.
After Kevin donates some money, Mr. Duncan suggests that he take a pair of ceramic turtledoves from the store's Christmas tree as both a gift and a token of appreciation. He then instructs him to keep one and give the other to someone else, as a symbol of friendship and Kevin becomes fascinated about the turtledoves. Kevin leaves the store and runs into Harry and Marv while looking at his map for directions, who then chase him after the bandits spot Kevin and decide to get their revenge. During the chase, Kevin manages to lose the bandits by making them slip on necklace beads.
Kevin is seen buying fireworks in Chinatown when he first arrives in New York City. Buzz is in the 11th grade, Kevin the 7th. There is no way that Buzz would be in the same school at the same time as Kevin. Buzz would be in high school while Kevin would be in Junior high. Thus, there's no way Buzz would be in the same Christmas play as Kevin. When Kevin goes swimming at the Plaza, it is a different hotel.
After Angela successfully kills all the hitmen, she finally asks her neighbor his name, to which he responds, "Kevin." Devin Ratray portrayed Buzz in the Home Alone series opposite Macaulay Culkin, who played his younger brother, "Kevin." The "Holiday Hoarders" mission while also being loosely based on the first two films, features a challenge to throw three bricks at Marv's head. After Peter unknowingly resets the alarm clock by removing the camcorder battery from its charger, he instructs Kevin to get ready for his school's Christmas concert.
Thinking that it is water, he puts his head in the toilet which causes an explosion. His head gets burned and his face covered in ashes. Later, Marv Murchins and Harry climb down the rope in an effort to pursue Kevin. Then, Kevin sets the rope on fire and the two robbers try to climb back up.
